The Richmond based firm of Lawrence Ellis Williams Architect specializes in planning,  facilities management and real estate development projects. Since the firm’s establishment in 1986, LWA has provided facilities management architectural services to the State of Virginia, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and

J Sargent Reynolds CommunityCollege. Our firm is quite involved in Community Planning for Afro-American Communities. We have ongoing relationships with local housing authorities and community development corporations. Our firm works well with students and community leaders. Lawrence E. Williams Architect is well known in Richmond and is actively involved in projects that affect the redevelopment of our communities. LWA has a steadfast commitment to minority academic and business development. We demonstrate this by seeking joint ventures and subcontracting opportunities with other minority firms.

Mr. Williams, the firm’s principal, is actively involved in every step of the early planning and project implementation process including project design in historic, established Afro American communities, schools and churches.  The firm is well versed in local construction and regional building codes, life safety and handicapped codes. Our team of Architects, Engineers and Local Contractors are accomplished at Value Engineering –

Computing renovation and new construction prebidcost and setting priorities of work to be done when budgetary conditions dictate phasing of work.

Lawrence Williams has over 35 years of experience in construction administration, budget costs and the ability to work with clients and government administrators to cut red tape, while relating to other small business owners and the construction industry.

Negotiations with Lawrence Williams Architect include innovative problem solving and team building.Lawrence Williams Architect has worked with many private sector clients, community development corporations, local business owners and also churches throughout his career.

Williams began helping churches realize their dreams. Later his interest in community development enabled him to gain much experience in the administration of community development corporations. Williams was instrumental in helping new community development corporation administrators develop their skills to build their first homes.

The Southside Community Development Corporation homes along Bainbridge and Porter Streets in Richmond422 East Franklin Street.  The Highland Park Community Development Corporation homes along First and Third Streets and The NorthSide Neighborhood Housing Services homes along North Avenue.

Lawrence Williams Architect initiated and provided design services for the Jackson Center Office Building at 2nd and Marshall Streets and the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Roanoke and Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond to name just a few community based and private sector projects.

Lawrence Williams has served on several boards and commissions with the City of Richmond. Daily interactions with City administrators representing public and private sector clients gives Williams a unique insight of how things actually get done at city hall.

Accurate Budgets, Good Zoning, Construction Permits and the length of Permit Review,(City hall red tape) and how to improve these issues are all important to Williams.

For five years Lawrence Williams was a committee member of a 9 person steering committee The Richmond Tomorrow Strategic Planning Committee. During this time the City was thoroughly accessed and recommendations for all levels of City bureaucracy were reviewed. Much insight on how the city is actually run was gained. Some of the progress then underCity manager Robert Bobb has brought us to this point in our City development.

Lawrence Williams has been involved in master planning projects for many years in Richmond and other cities. He has also done public housing renovations in Creighton Court and feasibility studies for developers in the region. He has seen his visions occur over time with hard work, focus and determination. Early planning studies for the City of Richmond include the early Jackson Place Master Plan and the Hull Street Master Plan done in joint venture with national planning firms. Mr. Williams was also a member of a steering committee appointed by the planning commission for the recent Downtown Master Plan. Present studies include a new proposed park below the I-95 Shockoe Valley bridges similar to Byrd Park with water retention basins lakes.  The park would give value to adjacent hilltops. Such gateway initiatives, now in concept stage, illustrate how citizen based planning by Lawrence Williams has extended the downtown master plan community process into City neighborhoods. With the help of family, church leaders, community organizations like the Eastview Civic League and past political mentors such as Ex-Mayor Walter Kenny and City Manager Robert Bobb, Lawrence Williams has shaped his career to serve your organization:
